Urgent Appeal for Gaza

In 2005, Israel pulled its troops out of Gaza, calling an end to the occupation but still controlled most of Gaza's land borders, as well as its territorial waters and airspace. Israel has for many years restricted entry to and exit from Gaza, allowing only basic humanitarian items in to the area. Virtually no exports have been permitted which has paralysed Gaza’s economy.

At times the borders are closed for days on end, starving one million people who are reliant on food handouts and other basic necessities to keep alive.

The tragic situation brought on by Israel's war on Gaza in recent years has had terrible impacts on all aspects of Palestinian people’s daily lives, affecting their physical and mental health.

The main aim of MGR has been to provide psychological care for the mothers and children of Gaza, and to provide them with clean drinking water (see
http://www.muslimglobalrelief.com//current_projects/Safe_Water/index.htm).

Our project is to provide realistic and objective solutions to heal the psychological wounds that the conflict in Gaza continues to inflict on mothers and their children.

Our project adopts an integral and multi-track methodology that is based on two tracks; the first of which is psychological counselling, healing and promotion of mental health, while the second track consists of two aspects: awareness-raising & prevention and public participation.

According to our research the most frequent problems among the children in Gaza may be diagnosed as follows:

Sleep Disturbances: phobias about the dark, nightmares interrupted sleeping, and changes in sleeping schedule.
Urination Disturbances: nightly bedwetting, and watery stools.
Educational Disturbances: problems in continuing school and education, and dropping out of school, leading ultimately to impairing academic abilities and deteriorating academic achievement.
Social Interaction Disturbances: problems in social interaction, prevalence of sadness, and depressive feelings, and physical, and social isolation and detachment.
Nutritional Disturbances: loss of appetite, vomiting, thumb sucking and biting of fingernails.
Storms of Anger: excessive nervousness, imbalance, disobedience, and feelings of horror and fear.

Please donate £60.00 per child/mother or £10.00 per month towards this vital project.

The long-suffering people of Gaza urgently need your support.
