Many thousands of expectant women and children die each year in developing countries due to lack of government resources towards health care for the population.
Only major cities in these countries have hospitals that provide health care provisions that even remotely resemble western standards.
In towns and villages expectant women have no choice but to go through the pains of their pregnancy and child birth in their homes without any form of medical assistance. Complications normally lead to having to travel via public transport or via horse and cart in their state for hours, to get to the nearest city hospital for help.
